The AHCA 2012 Annual Quality Report

Quality Report.pngEach year, AHCA published the Quality Report to keep members, policymakers, and the public informed about the advancements in quality care that stem from the more than 11,000 member facilities nationwide. The report provides an overview of the latest national trends in the profession, updated information on how SNFs are performing, and updates on payment models connected to quality care. Beyond identifying trends in the profession, the report provides a snapshot of how AHCA members are living out the mission of "Improving Lives by Delivering Solutions for Quality Care."


The 2012 Annual Quality Report revealed important developments in the way skilled nursing and post-acute care facilities are meeting the needs of consumers:

  • Of the 3.7 million individuals who received care in a nursing facility in 2009, 77 percent were admitted for short-term rehabilition.
  • The number of facilities receiving a CMS rating of four or five stars has steadily increased to 43 percent.
  • Customer satisfaction remains high, with short-stay patients' satisfaction increasing to 87 percent.
